It’s Saturday morning, you slept in a couple hours, it’s about 10am and you are ready to get out of the house to enjoy that nice Santa Cruz weekend fresh air. You are thinking of an ideal place to go that can has a mix of fresh food, friends/community, being outside, and music. You, my friend, are wanting to go to the Aptos Farmer’s Market.
Every Saturday from 8am-12pm, rain or shine, farmers, vendors, musicians and community members head over to the main parking lots at Cabrillo College for a great morning of fresh food, conversations, laughs, and entertainment. The farmers market is always full of color. The array of fruits, vegetables, breads, dairy products, and meats make for great local shopping. Many of the vendors are certified Organic and offer a wide variety of in-season fruits and veggies.
If you are a parent don’t let that stop you from enjoying the market festivities. Feel free to bring them! Kids can enjoy the variety of free produce samples to munch on, live music to keep them entertained, extra kid friendly instruments for them to join in, and sometimes there are street performers such as the Great Morgani or a friendly clown making balloon animals. There is always something to smile about at the Aptos Farmers market for both adults and kids!
The Aptos Farmers Market is the perfect way to kick off your weekend.
See you on Saturday!

This page used to have a social locker widget on it, but I removed it to make the content easier to consume.
** Update ** This offer is no longer available. I am not actually sure if they offer photos at all any more.
Santa Cruz Waves is one of the top sites in Santa Cruz, and certainly the top Surf Photography site. Voted Best site for local 411 in the GoodTimes three years in a row they may even be the best Surf Photography site in California!
These high resolution photos can be used for personal use, whether that is on social media, or even having them printed at a local photo lab to gift or hang on your own wall and appreciate.
This is a great offer from them, if you have shots of yourself, family or friends on the Santa Cruz Waves site then you should take advantage of this offer.]]>
It’s a warning to all consumers that the big flower delivery warehouses don’t deliver what they say they will, and they are urging us to shop local. We put an excerpt and a link to the article up on our Florists page, you can read it here: Florists]]>
This new sticker is from LocalSantaCruz.com and it is a perfect addition to the tons of local stickers we already have. We have lots of color in our stickers, and now we have a sticker a little more sophisticated that still shows Santa Cruz has more style than anywhere else!
Go pick up the Sticker above, a Locals Only sticker or a sticker from your neighborhood in the Santa Cruz Sticker Shop.]]>
It feels like arts in Santa Cruz are everywhere yet at the same time have a hard time gaining traction in places designated for them.
I have no idea what the real draw or purpose or economics of this place are. But it seems to me that if you name a place for the arts, it is probably your intent to support the arts.
This place… Really doesn’t seem to be doing that. Whatever the reason it is unfortunate that this beautiful space doesn’t have more local art and artists selling and displaying here.
Today there is a gift festival Sponsored by The Blue Herron Design Group and The Art Factory, which we mentioned before, and so every nook and cranny does have artisans packed into it. Having artists in every hall and corner really points out how little art there must be here on a normal basis though.
So it’s really a shame that this place has an “Art Center” name with cabinetry and and a salon tenants, which may be fine businesses on their own, but seem out of place. It would be nice to see the dance studio, luthier and textile shop here entice other like minded neighbors and I will keep this place in mind when I hear people talking about venues for art events. But again, I have no idea what the real situation is, maybe artists just can’t pay the rent.]]>

Readers all know that we are fans of the Arts and Artists that Santa Cruz is so fantastic at producing. And Leslie Stabile, the creative force behind Bella Mare Sea Glass is a prime example of the creative spirit alive and well in Santa Cruz.
Although Leslie is based here in Santa Cruz but her art provides her with the freedom to travel the globe visiting some of the best Sea Glass hunting spots the world has to offer.
Her site: Bella Mare Sea Glass is not only a beautiful shop and gallery, but also a resource for those of us who love finding the occasional piece of sea glass on our own!
I am stoked on her new site, and think it is a beautiful addition to the web for Santa Cruz business owners. I love to see our locals take their place in the world’s market.
As Bella Mare puts it “Bella Mare’s Love for the Ocean, Traveling & Sea Glass, Brings You One of a Kind Jewelry.”
You can always visit The Local Guide to Santa Cruz for tips on local business owner and artisans in our community. In fact for more great deals now, you can take a look here.]]>
Seeing the chicks, doves and parakeets at General reminded me of when they used to have the pigeon coop and semi-wild chickens running around. I kind of miss that, wild chickens are always fun to glimpse running through the brush… not so sure I miss the hundreds of ferral cats that used to own the property where Sutter Maternity Hospital is now, but I definitely think that there should still be chickens hanging out!]]>
You won’t find better customer service or selection while shopping for lamps, lighting, or when you are in need of a lamp repair.
300 Soquel Ave
Santa Cruz, CA 95062
At Santa-Cruz-Ca.org we are on the lookout for truly local businesses and Riverside Lighting definitely fits that bill. With 50 years with the same owners, Riverside Lighting is about as established as a business can get in Santa Cruz and they have the reputation to prove it. In a world where most consumer items are specifically designed to be disposable it is a testament to Riverside’s customer service and dedication to their customers that so much of their business comes from lamp repair.
Customer service is a great place to start when looking for a place to shop, but Riverside Lighting tops it all off with a huge selection. They not only have the lamp you will love, but they almost certainly have the replacement bulbs for the lighting and lamps you already have, all with no hassle returns to make sure that you really are a happy, satisfied customer.]]>
